Ensembles at Rowan Community Music School

Make music with friends and make friends as you make music! Rowan CMS offers several ensemble options. We even have opportunities to join some Rowan University ensembles.

  • A late fee of $10 will be assessed for each late payment for ensmble tuition. 
  • Rowan CMS reserves the right to cancel any courses, festivals, and ensembles that do not meet minimum enrollment requirements.

 


Atlantic Youth Brass Band

(Spring 2020 only) 

  • Faculty: Bryan Appleby-Wineberg & The Atlantic Brass Band
  • Sundays, 3:00 - 5:30 PM
  • First rehearsal: Sunday, February 2, 2020
  • Performance: Monday, May 18th; 7:00pm in Boyd Recital Hall; $5 per person. 
  • Cost: $200
    • A late fee of $10 will be assessed for ensemble tuition not paid by February 24, 2020.

  • Open to all school-aged brass players of the following instruments:
    cornet, flugel horn, tenor horn, baritone, trombone, euphonium, tuba, and percussion.

This dynamic team will push your brass playing to new heights of musical excellence and change the way you play in your school ensembles. Come & learn the amazing art of brass playing in a true Brass Band!  No audition necessary. 

Rehearsal Dates: Febuary 2nd (2:00-3:30pm only), February 8-9th - FREE admission to the Mid-Atlantic Brass Band Festival. February 23rd, March 1st, March 8th, March 15th, March 29th, April 5th, April 19th, April 26th, May 3rd, May 10th, May 17th. 

 


Garden State Girlchoir and New Jersey Boychoir

  • The Garden State Girlchoir (GSG) seeks to nurture extraordinary girls by empowering them through extraordinary music making. Click the link above if you know a girl or young woman between the ages 7 and 17 who loves to sing.
  • The New Jersey Boychoir (NJB) is in its inaugural season, channeling the boundless energy of boys into music making of the highest standards that results in the unforgettable experiences for singers and audiences alike.

Rowan Youth Orchestra

  • Concerts: December 1, 2019 @ 7:00pm and May 3, 2020
  • Cost for 2019-2020 season: $400 
    • Registration for new members for the Spring 2020 semester will open on January 20, 2020. Tuition for new members will be a pro-rated fee of $200.
    • Payment plan available (only available for full year participation). 
    • Discount for payment in full (only available for full year particiaption).

The Rowan Youth Orchestra, now in its 36th year at Rowan University, is a full orchestra including all the major string, woodwind, brass and percussion instruments. Orchestra members are in grades 7-12 from schools throughout southern New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware. The RYO will perform two concerts in Rowan University’s Pfleeger Concert Hall to showcase its musicians’ talents and will have chamber music opportunities.

Auditions will be held on January 19, 2020 for select instruments only for the Spring 2020 Semester - registration will be open soon!

The Rowan Youth String Orchestra is for string players primarily in grades 5 and up! RYSO is comprised of young musicians who have played for at least 2 years and have completed book one of a method, Suzuki or others. These students can read music and play at least three scales one octave- D, G, C.The RYSO will perform two concerts in Rowan University’s Pfleeger Concert Hall to showcase its musicians’ talents along with the Rowan Youth Orchestra.

Cantati Tutti Choir

  • Director: Professor Pam Barnes
  • Open to all students of all majors, staff and community members who enjoy singing 
  • Cost: $100 per semester

The new Rowan University Cantati Tutti Choir is an all-access, non-auditioned ensemble designed to fulfill the needs of all students, all majors, staff, & community members who enjoy singing. This ensemble is designed for all levels of singers. There is no audition requirement. Cantati Tutti will perform all styles of choral literature from Renaissance to contemporary literature. Emphasis will be placed on developing musical and personal attributes through ensemble singing.  The choir will perform in both university and community events. In addition to the scheduled class meeting times, students must demonstrate a willingness to make personal schedule adjustments to accommodate extra rehearsals and performances. Together, we will create memories and beautiful music that will last a lifetime. Rehearsals are held on Mondays 5:00-7:45pm (5:00-6:16 Wilson Hall Room 153 & 6:30-7:45 Wilson Hall Rooms 105 & 205) REGISTER HERE!

Concert Band

  • Director: Mr. Mark Kadetsky
  • Open to high school wind players by audition only
  • Cost: $100 per semester

The Rowan University Concert Band is comprised of music majors as well as talented students from many other disciplines. Exploring a variety works for band, the ensemble prides itself in achieving a consistently high level of performance. Student-musicians share in the excitement of the creative process as they prepare two concerts each semester. Rehearsals are now held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:00-6:15pm. All interested high school and college aged students are required to email higgins@rowan.edu to schedule an audition prior to registering. 

University Orchestra

This full-sized orchestra performs concerts of the standard repertoire, Young Peoples Concerts, and a Pops concert. The group also sponsors an annual soloist competition. All high school and college aged students are required to email schwarzt@rowan.edu to schedule an audition prior to registering. 

String Orchestra

  • Director: Dr. Joanne Erwin
  • Open to adult community string players and college aged strings. No audition required.
  • Cost: $100 per semester

String Orchestra is for adult community and non-music major string players to rehearse and perform string literature in a small ensemble setting.
