Remembrance: Music of the Holocaust

Rowan University Wind Ensemble

May 2nd • 8pm • Pfleeger Concert Hall

This concert, on Yom HaShoah 2019 (“Holocaust Remembrance Day”), commemorates the lives lost by celebrating composers who were killed in concentration camps, as well as artists who fled and later composed musical tributes. Included are Shabtai Petrushka’s Three Jewish Melodies, led by graduate conductor David Lerner, and Jan Meyerowitz’s Three Comments on War. Other program highlights include film music from Schindler’s List, featuring violinist Timothy Schwarz, Aaron Copland's Fanfare for the Common Man, and the premiere of Bruce Yurko's In Memoriam Dean Witten, a musical homage to the late professor and percussionist from 1979-2018. Finally, we are proud to feature Concerto Competition Winner Lia Boncoeur, who will perform Carl Maria von Weber's Polacca.

Tickets are $10 (general admission); $5 (seniors/non-Rowan students/faculty/staff/alumni/military); and FREE for Rowan students with valid ID.
