It is the late 1980’s and the shows leading lady, Veronica, has just transferred to a new high school. She quickly discovers the pecking order inside the student population and it’s pretty ugly. There are “jocks”, “nerds”, “potheads” and more. At the top of this food chain are: “The Heathers”. The three young women or rule the school are all named Heather and at the top tier is Heather Chandler. Veronica gets reluctantly caught up with the Heathers. She also meets a mysterious male student named JD. JD hates the Heathers and encourages Veronica to befriend the Heathers in order to take them down. But JD’s tactics quickly turn dangerous and Veronica slowly realizes that JD is more dangerous than any Heather and that she must stop him from destroying the entire school. There is murder, body shaming, homophobia, talk of suicide and the constant need to be popular at all cost in this musical. There is also dark humor and wit. This musical is a cautionary tale about the greed and excess of a 1980’s America through the lens of high school students.
