Understanding Music

Conversational Solfege Levels 1 & 2: Spring 2022

John Feierabend's engaging, research-based method develops notational literacy by helping children understand music through the use of rhythm and solfege syllables at a conversational level in order to develop a strong sense of inner hearing.  Students become independent musical thinkers through a sequential process wherein they learn and joyfully perform music before progressing to the decoding, reading, and writing of musical thought.  This literature-driven approach allows teachers ownership over what repertoire is chosen in order to reflect their particular student population.  In this course, you will learn the philosophy behind Conversational Solfege and how to employ it in your own program right away.

Instruction will be delivered live, online in a virtual format and will not be recorded. 24 Professional Development hours are available.

Please Note for FAME Certification: successful completion of all assignments and the final exam are required.  Students missing more than 2 hours, total, of online engagement will not receive FAME certification and PD hours will be adjusted accordingly.

Earn Graduate Credits through Conversational Solfege!

Students who have not been accepted into a graduate program are considered non-matriculated, and are permitted to accumulate no more than 9 credits of graduate coursework until accepted and matriculated into a graduate program. Students who present evidence of a master's degree are not restricted to the 9 credit limit, but must also register as a non-matriculated student unless they are matriculated into a graduate program.

Students who have never attended Rowan University, or who are no longer active in Rowan systems, should complete an Activation & Registration Form for Visiting (Non-Matriculated) Students. Once activated, you will receive further instructions for activating your account and registering for courses.

Non-matriculated graduate students are permitted to register during the entire registration period for each term.

** Note: Non-matriculated students do not qualify for financial aid or discounted tuition rates.
