Gerry DeLoach is in his 7^th year here at Rowan University as an Adjunct Faculty member. Mr. DeLoach teaches Clarinet classes to Music Education students.

 

In addition to his University responsibilities, Gerry DeLoach is currently in his 25th year as an instrumental music teacher.  During his first four years of teaching, Gerry taught in the School District of Haverford Township in Haverford, PA, where he directed the Elementary School Bands as well as directing the High School Jazz Ensemble.  Gerry came to Clearview Regional Middle School in Mullica Hill, NJ, in the fall of 1997.  At Clearview, Gerry directs the Middle School Concert Bands as well as assisting with the High School Concert Bands.  In addition to the Concert Bands, Gerry teaches a variety of Chamber Ensembles as well as the Middle School and High School Jazz Bands. 

 

Gerry's teaching experience also includes a semester at Temple University where he directed one of the small jazz ensembles.  In addition to this ensemble, Gerry was a clinician at Temple University's High School Jazz Band Festival in 1999.  At this festival, Gerry gave clinics on saxophone performance and jazz improvisation.  In 1997 Gerry was nominated to Who's Who of American Teachers.  In November of 2002, Gerry presented a session at the NJEA Convention in Atlantic City titled "Things they didn't teach you in College".  This clinic/session was geared to first year music teachers in NJ.  In March of 2003, Gerry gave a clinic at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia on saxophone performance and improvisation.  Additionally, in March of 2005, Gerry traveled to Roberts Wesleyan College in Rochester, NY, to perform and present at the Schoenhals Symposium.  This Symposium highlighted the connection between music and Christian beliefs.

 

Gerry is a 1993 graduate of Temple University where he earned a B.M. in Music Education with a concentration in Jazz Studies.  While at Temple, Gerry studied saxophone and jazz improvisation with Larry McKenna.  When Gerry graduated from Temple he received the Essie Barron Memorial Award for outstanding achievement and unusual promise in the field of music.  Gerry received his Master of Music degree from Rowan University in the Spring of 2002.  While at Rowan University Gerry recorded his first solo jazz CD titled, "On the Trail".  Other teachers that Gerry has studied with include John Cooper, Marshall Taylor, Denis DiBlasio, Chris Potter, and Chuck Israels.  Gerry has also taken graduate classes in Jazz Arranging and Jazz Improvisation at The University of Memphis in Memphis, Tennessee and Villanova University in Villanova, Pennsylvania. 

 

As a professional saxophone player in the Philadelphia area, Gerry plays with various Wedding Bands, Jazz Big Bands, Rock Bands, and small Jazz Groups as well as doing some studio work.  He has recorded with local artists Susan Werner, Mike Ianeri, George Genna, Billy Jones, and Craig Thomas.  Artists that he has performed with include Grover Washington Jr., Larry McKenna, Chuck Israels, John Swana, and Denis DiBlasio.

 

Gerry resides in Glassboro, NJ with his wonderful wife Doreen, son Lukas, and daughter Lily.
