Minors
An academic minor represents an area of study associated with or drawn from a major or discipline, comprising 18 to 29 credit hours.
Dance
Combining technique and theory, students pursuing a minor in Dance will take classes in modern dance, jazz, ballet, improvisation and more. Students from all majors are eligible for this program, but must pass the course “Elements of Dance,” which takes the place of a formal audition.
Music
Designed for students who wish to continue the study of music while completing a major in a different subject. The flexible course sequence includes applied lessons, ensemble experiences and introductory music theory.
*This minor program is not available for Bachelor of Music or Bachelor of Arts in Music students.
Theatre
Covering a range of theatrical arts from stage lighting and costume design to music theatre and directing. Students from all majors are eligible for this program, but must pass the course “Experiencing Acting,” which takes the place of a formal audition.
Theatrical Design
Certificates of Undergraduate Study (CUGS)
Rowan University’s CUGS are a great option for students looking to explore an academic area of interest outside of their elected major and prepare for their professional futures. Each certificate is made up of 12 to 17 credit hours.
Jazz Performance
Available to students in all major programs, the CUGS in Jazz Performance is intended to provide an opportunity to gain experience in jazz practices, styles and performances. The certificate consists of applied lessons in jazz performance and improvisation, ensemble experience and courses in jazz history and music theory. Students interested must audition with an applied music instructor before beginning applied lessons.
Music Composition
The CUGS in Music Composition consists of applied lessons in composition and elective courses in music history, music theory and computer music applications. The program is available to music BM, BA, and BS majors. The CUGS is intended to provide an opportunity for music majors outside of the composition program to gain experience composing music. Students interested in this CUGS must consult with the Coordinator of Composition before entering the CUGS.
Music Performance
The CUGS in Music Performance is designed for students with majors outside of a Bachelor of Music or a Bachelor of Arts in Music who wish to pursue instrumental or vocal performance as part of their coursework, allowing students who performed in middle and high school ensembles to continue to develop as musicians. The certificate consists of applied lessons, ensemble experiences and supplementary courses in music.
Supplementary Music Performance
Designed for instrumental music students wishing to develop performance skills on a second instrument. Available to students in Rowan’s Bachelor of Music or Bachelor of Arts in Music programs, the certificate consists of applied lessons, ensemble experiences and supplemental courses in music.
