ROWAN UNIVERSITY SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA

This full-sized symphony orchestra performs concerts of the standard repertoire, contemporary works, opera productions, holiday concerts, and more. Each season, the Rowan Symphony Orchestra sponsors a Concerto Competition for all music students. Membership is open to both music majors and talented students from across our campus, via successful audition at the beginning of each academic year. For more information, please contact Prof. Cheng at: chengjia@rowan.edu

STRING ENSEMBLE

 Timothy Schwarz, Director

The String Ensemble offers a specialized performing opportunity for those playing the violin, viola, cello, and double bass. Interested students should contact the ensemble conductor (schwarzt@rowan.edu).

STRING ORCHESTRA

Gabriela Mandescu, Director

The Rowan String Orchestra is for non-music majors who love to play violin, viola, cello or bass. The orchestra meets once a week; no audition is required for String Orchestra, but it is expected that students have at least one year of experience with their instrument. For more information, please contact Prof. Mandescu at: mandescu@rowan.edu

SHADOW DAYS FOR PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS

We love to host prospective students on our shadow days! Open to high school juniors, seniors, and transfer students, a day of shadowing includes participating in full orchestra rehearsals, attend a technique class with violin professor Dr. Schwarz, observation of String Ensemble rehearsal, Q&A with our Music Education and Music Therapy faculty, a luncheon where you can interact with our current students, and—if desired—an opportunity to attend other classes within the music major or minor track. This year’s shadow days include:

  • October 11, 2021
  • November 4, 2021
