This full-sized symphony orchestra performs concerts of the standard repertoire, contemporary works, opera productions, holiday concerts, and more. Each season, the Rowan Symphony Orchestra sponsors a Concerto Competition for all music students. Membership is open to both music majors and talented students from across our campus, via successful audition at the beginning of each academic year. The Rowan String Orchestra is for non-music majors who love to play violin, viola, cello or bass. The orchestra meets once a week, and is led by the legendary string pedagogue Dr. Joanne Erwin, who recently retired from the Oberlin Conservatory. No audition is required for String Orchestra, but it is expected that students have at least one year of experience with their instrument.
