Biography

Joseph M. Farina has been a theater educator, director and arts management professional for the past 30 years.  Starting his career as a theatrical producer and director for Allegro Productions in Philadelphia he has worked in both the commercial and non-profit fields.  He is currently the Head Teacher for the Visual and Performing Arts for the Burlington Township School District where he spearheaded a strategic planning process to create a national model for arts education in the country. He was honored by The New Jersey General Assembly for “his high ideals and dedication to the theater as an educator and director which has earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues and shaped the development of countless students.” 

Mr. Farina was the Managing Director of the Prince Music Theater in Philadelphia, a theater company whose mission was the development of new musicals such as Adam Guettel’s Floyd Collins, Harold Prince’s 3hree, and Me and Mrs. Jones, featuring the music of Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff.  He has worked with such artists as Mandy Patinkin, Patti LuPone, Lou Rawls, Faith Prince, Raul Esparza, Cherry Jones and Audra McDonald. He also served as the Managing Director of InterAct Theater in Philadelphia and as the Producing Artistic Director of The Greenwich House Theater in New York City.

During his career he has produced and directed over 250 productions including the New York premieres of Alphabet of Flowers (starring Kim Hunter and Sylvia Miles), The Moon Away; The Matinee Ladies; Acts of Contrition; A Bungalow Story and The Dinky Dau Trilogy.  Mr. Farina holds a Bachelor’s degree in Social Studies Education from LaSalle University and a Master’s degree in Theater from Villanova University.  He has served as a panelist for the Theater Communications Group and Dramatists Guild in New York City and The Philadelphia Theater Alliance.  He is the Artistic Director of Millennium Theatre Company, a professional company dedicated to producing new work, developing new audiences and training the next generation of theater artists.
