Biography

Lorraine Lynch holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Indiana University, a Master of Music in Music Education from Rutgers University, and a New Jersey Supervisors Certificate.  Ms. Lynch is presently finishing her Doctorate of Music Education at Rutgers University (ABD).  Prior to her appointment at Rowan, she served for 33 years at Roxbury High School as Director of Choral Activities, and for the past 12 years as Lead Teacher for the Roxbury Performing Arts Department. As leader of the department, Ms. Lynch sought to create an environment in which the Roxbury Performing Arts Program flourished, excelled, and continues to be considered the model of excellence in all facets of music education.  At RHS, Ms. Lynch developed a choral program with seven choral classes at four curricular levels with more than 270 students participating in addition to extra-curricular choirs highlighting madrigal choir, jazz choir, show choir, men’s choir, women’s choir and musical theatre.  Under Ms. Lynch’s direction the premier select choir, Roxbury Classic Sounds Honors, performed multiple times at Carnegie Hall, at numerous ACDA Conferences and at NAfME Conventions.

Ms. Lynch is an active guest conductor, clinician, adjudicator and pianist.  She has conducted workshops at many conventions including ACDA Conventions, the All-Eastern Music Educators Convention, the PMEA Convention, and NJMEA Conventions.  Ms. Lynch’s credits as a conductor include the Massachusetts All-State Choir, the New Jersey All-State Choir, the Southeastern Massachusetts District Chorus, the ACDA Women’s Honors Choir in Eastern Pennsylvania, the North Jersey Region Chorus, Central Jersey Region Choir and the Sussex County Chorus.  She has served as a clinician for the Eastern Show Choir Festival, the Mid-West Show Choir Invitational, the Central Massachusetts Show Choir Festival, the MICCA Massachusetts State Choral Festivals, Music Showcase, Festivals of Music, Fiesta-val and Musical Carousel festivals. 

In the spring of 2015 Ms. Lynch was chosen as a Grammy Quarterfinalist for the Music Educator Award. In 2006 Ms. Lynch was selected as a finalist for the Princeton Distinguished Secondary School Teaching Award. In 1991, Ms. Lynch was selected for the Governor’s Teacher of the Year Award. In 2009, Ms. Lynch was chosen as one of twelve choral directors nationwide to be featured in Choral Director Magazine as a “Choral Director of Note”. She continues to serve on the NJACDA Board after seventeen years as a Board Member.
