Biography

In June 2014, Malcolm and his wife Pat Stewart, moved from St. Louis, MO to Wilmington, DE to be close to Pat’s daughter and her two grandsons. Malcolm has had a varied career in music, both as a teacher and as a performer on the trumpet/cornet. After starting on the piano at age 7 and the trumpet at age 9, the trumpet became his main instrument. Malcolm has a Master’s in Trumpet Performance from Indiana University and a B.S. in Music Education from Ithaca College. Malcolm has been a member of the New Orleans Philharmonic (5 years) and the St. Louis Symphony (13 years), where he played Assistant Principal Trumpet next to Susan Slaughter. He also has performed with the St. Louis Brass Quintet, playing concerts on tour and in- school concerts with Young Audiences. Malcolm played Principal Trumpet in the Webster University Orchestra and was the Adjunct Professor of Trumpet at Webster University for 20 years. Malcolm was the founding Director of Music and Conductor of the St. Louis Brass Band, who won 1st place in the Challenge Division at NABBA in Chicago in 2000.  Malcolm has very recently signed on as the Trumpet Instructor at The Music School of Delaware.

After many years playing Assistant Principal Solo Cornet next to Bryan Appleby-Wineberg in ABB, Malcolm has opted to make a move to the back row to assist on 3rd cornet.
