Biography

Deborah Pruitt holds a Masters Degree in Voice Performance from Manhattan School of Music, where she studied with Lynn Owen and Warren Helms and participated in Master Classes with Sherrill Milnes and Betty Allen. Ms. Pruitt earned a Bachelors Degree in Music Education, with a Choral Concentration, from The College of New Jersey. There, she studied with Dr. Suzanne Hickman and Dr. Michael Mendoza, who both helped shape the musician she is today. A New Jersey Certified Music Teacher, Deborah has taught in the NJ public school system for over 15 years, currently teaching 3rd and 4th grade general music and choir. Ms. Pruitt continued her education at Westminster Choir College, taking Post Graduate courses in Vocal and Choral Pedagogy and Choral Conducting, and is currently studying to obtain her Supervisor Certificate at Rowan University.

Ms. Pruitt enjoys giving back to the community, as the producer of Songs For Our City benefit concert, volunteer with By the Pond Singers, Executive Director of the Cape Scholarship Foundation, performer with the Cape Shore Chorale, and as a choir and bell choir member for her church. She was also honored to represent her area as Miss Cape May County and place as runner up to Miss NJ, twice earning the Miss America Organization Community Service Award. Ms. Pruitt is thrilled to partner with Rowan Community Music School in spreading the joy of music!

Deborah has performed with the Ocean City Pops Orchestra, the Atlantic City Theatre, 3LB Dinner Theatre, and the Greater Ocean City Theatre Company, in roles such as Irene Molloy in Hello, Dolly!, Sandy in Grease, Aunt Spiker in James and The Giant Peach and the Narrator in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Other favorite roles performed include Shelby in Steel Magnolias, Maria in West Side Story, Mimi in La Boheme, Sister Mary Leo in Nunsense, and Angela in the premiere performance of the opera Dismissed With Prejudice. Deborah was also a Guest Performer with Princess Cruises, Spirit Cruise Line, and After Dinner Opera Company of NYC. Equally comfortable behind the scenes, Ms. Pruitt has traveled the world as a Vocal Director for Royal Caribbean International. She has served as music director for Atlantic Cape Community College and Ocean City Pops Orchestra productions and as a choreographer for Gateway Theatre and Avalon Players Children’s Theatre. She currently serves as the proud choreographer for Cumberland Regional High School productions.

Past projects include teaching modeling and etiquette for the Barbizon School of Modeling, as well as working as a print and product model for Barbizon Chique. As a member of the Philadelphia Choral Arts Society, Deborah has fond memories of performing at The Mann Center for the Performing Arts and at the beloved Veterans Stadium, singing the National Anthem for the Philadelphia Phillies! Ms. Pruitt also taught for Fox Vocal Arts Studio and ran a private voice / piano studio where students have gone on to receive college scholarships, recording contracts, professional performance employment, and pageant titles and awards.
