Biography

Elivi Varga performs as a flute soloist, chamber musician, and orchestra member throughout the Philadelphia area. Recent appearances include performances at Longwood Gardens, Philadelphia Ethical Society, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, and with the Reading Choral Society. She is a founding member of the Lyra Ensemble, a flute quartet that performs throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.

Dr. Varga teaches music classes at Rowan University and Temple University. Previously, she taught at Illinois State University and Southeastern Louisiana University. She is a board member of the Flute Society of Greater Philadelphia, and frequently serves as a clinician and adjudicator at festivals and competitions throughout the region. Her recording, Silver Tunes: Music for Flute and Organ, features world-premiere recordings of music by Lowell Liebermann and Augusta Read Thomas, and is available on iTunes and at Amazon. Dr. Varga’s articles on music have appeared in The Flutist Quarterly, The Philadelphia Inquirer and elsewhere. She studied at Goucher College, the Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest, and earned a doctorate of musical arts at the University of Illinois, concentrating on music by Scandinavian women and music theory.
