Biography
Anthony Di Bartolo is a New Jersey-based percussionist, composer and sound artist. Fusing his experiences playing classical, metal, free jazz and electronic music he has created a unique musical vocabulary that has made him an in demand musician around the world. Anthony has appeared as a soloist and chamber musician at acclaimed venues such as Symphony Space, Lincoln Center, Madrid’s Reina Sofia and Basel’s Gare du Nord, as well as at the Zeltsman International Marimba Festival and Philadelphia Fringe Festival. He is featured on recordings for the Innova and Mulatta labels as well as several recordings with independent artists and ensembles. Anthony is also the Principal Percussionist with the Allentown Symphony Orchestra, a position he won in 2022 and performs regularly with a variety of other classical music groups such as Orchestra 2001,Bay Atlantic Symphony, Princeton Pro Musica, Garden State Philharmonic and more.
Anthony has received commissions from Orchestra 2001, The Cleveland Orchestra’s Modern Snare Drum Competition, Rowan University’s Department of Dance and more. In 2020, he released a book of etude sketches to help classical musicians learn the art of non-idiomatic improvisation.
More recently, Anthony has turned his attention to recorded music, DIY instruments and sound processing on live percussion. This has led to the release of his debut EP, Whimsical By Nature which straddles the lofi hip-hop, ambient and downtempo genres. It has also sparked new collaborations within the modular synthesizer community including work with the Brooklyn ambient collective Incontro, Lars Rynning (aka Gylden), Anders Nilsson (aka Per Barfot) and many more.
As an educator, Anthony has maintained a private studio since 2005 and is on faculty at Rowan University. He has been a guest lecturer and performer at the Juilliard School, Temple University, Ithaca College, New York University, Tennessee Tech, St. Cloud State and more.
Anthony is an ASCAP composer, published through ADpercussion and Keyboard Percussion Publications. He endorses Black Swamp Percussion products.
