Hans-Derek Yu

Hans-Derek Yu is a 17-year old pianist from Egg Harbor Township, NJ. He began studying piano at the age of 5 and has been a student of Professor Veda Zuponcic of Rowan University since age 7. Competing nationally and internationally, Hans has won first prize in numerous piano competitions, including the Chopin International Piano Competition in Hartford, Connecticut and the Osaka International Music Competition piano solo category. In 2017, he won 2^nd Prize at the MTNA National Competition in Baltimore.  He has been chosen as a semi-finalist in both the Hilton Head and the Gina Bachauer International Competitions and will be competing in both in the next few months.  Hans has performed in masterclasses with Gary Graffman, Dang Thai Son, Lydia Artymiw, Douglas Humpherys, and Emanuel Ax.
