Biography

Dr. Adam J. Kolek teaches courses in music theory. He received a Ph.D. in music theory from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where he completed a dissertation interpreting the linear sequence of segments in collage music by the American composer John Zorn. He also holds degrees from Smith College and Skidmore College. His current research focuses on music theory pedagogy, culturally sustaining teaching, and the development of open educational resources. Dr. Kolek has presented his research at regional and national conferences, including that of the College Music Society, the Society for American Music, the New England Conference of Music Theorists, Pedagogy into Practice, the Music Theory Society of the Mid-Atlantic, and the Ann Arbor Symposium.
