Biography
Don Marrazzo possesses extensive experience as a voice teacher and non-profit arts management professional in the areas of executive management; artistic administration; programming and casting; young artist program development; public relations and marketing; and community and educational outreach.
Mr. Marrazzo has maintained a private voice teaching studio since 2001. Students from his studio have performed with opera companies, Broadway and Off-Broadway theaters, and orchestras throughout the United States and Europe including The Metropolitan Opera; New York City Opera; Opera Theatre of Saint Louis; Glimmerglass Opera; Opera Philadelphia; Palm Beach Opera; Florida Grand Opera; Utah Symphony and Opera, Opera Florentine; Tulsa Opera; Opéra de Lyon, Oper Bonn, American Globe Theatre, the Richard Rodgers Theatre, the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, the Philadelphia Orchestra, and at Longwood Gardens and World Café Live. They have won awards and honors from The Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions; the George London Foundation; The American Traditions Competition for Singers; the Gerda Lissner Foundation; The Sullivan Awards; the Fritz & Lavinia Jensen Foundation Competition; Classical Singer Magazine’s AudComps; the Schuyler Foundation for Career Bridges; and the Anna Sosenko Assist Trust. He has served as a judge for the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, presented seminars and masterclasses for the Conservatorium van Amsterdam in Amsterdam, The Netherlands; Dawn Upshaw’s Graduate Vocal Arts Program at Bard College Conservatory of Music; Penn State University; Temple University; the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) and the Resonanz Singer Training Program, and has served as a presenter and panelist for singer training forums with OPERA America.
From 2011-2013, Mr. Marrazzo was the Executive Director of Astral Artists, an organization committed to the discovery, development, and promotion of the nation’s most gifted emerging musicians. Prior to his work at Astral, Mr. Marrazzo was the Director of Casting & Artistic Operations for Glimmerglass Opera in Cooperstown, New York. He revitalized Glimmerglass’s mainstage casting, raised its acclaimed Young American Artists Program to an unprecedented level of achievement, and created relationships and fostered collaborations with a number of renowned organizations, companies, and artists including the New York Festival of Song (NYFOS), The Morgan Library and Museum, the Bavarian State Opera, baritones Håkan Hagegård and François Le Roux, and pianist Steven Blier. Mr. Marrazzo first joined Glimmerglass Opera as its Director of Public Relations in 2005, serving as chief representative to the local, regional, national, and international media, and liaison to the local community. A strong advocate of arts education, Mr. Marrazzo created numerous educational outreach initiatives via his work at Glimmerglass Opera.
A native of Bucks County, Pennsylvania, Mr. Marrazzo holds degrees in vocal performance from the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia and the Conservatorium van Amsterdam in The Netherlands, as well as an M.F.A in Voice Pedagogy for Musical Theatre and an M.M. in Classical Voice Pedagogy and Performance from Penn State University.
