Biography
Rachel Michel currently serves as the Lesson Coodinator of the Rowan University Community Music School and Coordinator of the Rowan Summer Music Camps. She served as the Rowan CMS Program Coodinator from 2017-2022. Rachel previously taught Prek-8th grade music, chorus, instrumental music, band and an iPad Band for 8 years. During this time she received several grants for the implementation of technology into the current music curriculum. She also held the director position of the Jackson Township Liberty High School Woodwind Choir for 6 years.
Rachel was an active member of NJMEA (2009-2018) presenting various collegiate and music technology presentations at conventions/workshops and various school districts. She served on the NJMEA summer workshop board as the business/outreach coordinator for 7 years.
Rachel graduated from Rowan University in 2009 where she majored in music education with a concentration in flute. During her time at Rowan she was involved in Sigma Alpha Iota and held various offices in the collegiate NAfME. While president of Rowan’s NAfME, Rowan hosted the 2009 collegiate NAfME convention. During her time at Rowan she was selected as a SWAG member in the Music For All Summer Symposium at Illinois State University (2007, 2008), and in 2007 presented sessions at the International Arts and Humanities Conference in Hawaii, National Flute Association Convention in New Mexico and completed a study abroad, program in Salzburg, Austria. Rachel became a certified Music Together teacher in 2009 and First Steps in Music trained teacher in 2021. She is a proud commitee member of the Music Around the County, Salem County Arts Alliance in Salem County, NJ. Rachel's hobbies include gardening, kayaking and traveling.
