Biography
Prof. Lane Savadove, the Head of Acting and Directing at Rowan University, has been directing and teaching nationally and internationally for over 30 years. He is the founding Artistic Director of the award-winning EgoPo Classic Theater in Philadelphia, now in its 28th year. He has been an Independence Foundation Fellow, Drama League Directing Fellow, Shubert Fellow, and the first director award the Henry Luce Fellowship for which he served as the resident director of the National Cultural Center of Indonesia (1996-7). Savadove has worked and trained closely with innovators Judith Malina at The Living Theater, Lee Breuer at Mabou Mines, Ping Chong, and Anne Bogart of SITI Company. He has directed over 50 productions internationally, regionally, Off-Broadway, and on National Public Radio. Most recent productions for EgoPo include Adam Rapp’s Nocturne (2021) in a vacant parking lot, Beckett’s Rockaby (2020) through backyard windows, Tennessee Williams’ And Tell Sad Tells (2019) with tour to Provincetown Theater Festival. Other notable shows include: John Guare’s 10 hour Lydie Breeze Trilogy (2018), Beckett’s Company (NPR, Provincetown, SF, Chicago, NYC), Chekov’s The Seagull (2017 winner of the Barrymore Award for Best Production), Williams’ House Not Meant to Stand (Southern Rep.) and a dual version of Genet’s The Maids (New Orleans, Philly Fringe, Jean Cocteau). He holds his MFA in Directing from Columbia University and his BA from Haverford College. Lane has been a Professor of Acting and Directing at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, The National University of Indonesia, and Loyola University, New Orleans, where he was Head of Directing.
