Biography
Julianne Smith has cultivated a reputation as a talented young violist in both Southern New Jersey and Central Texas. From 2015-2019, she studied both viola and violin under Dr. Timothy Schwarz at Rowan University, from where she holds a bachelor’s degree in Instrumental Music Education. From 2019-2021, Julianne studied viola and served as a graduate teaching assistant under Dr. Kathryn Steely at Baylor University, where she earned a master’s degree in Viola Performance. During this time, she performed with the award-winning Baylor University Symphony Orchestra throughout south and central Texas. Julianne was the winner of the 2018 Techne Music Festival Concerto Competition and was the Silver Medalist in the 2018 Rowan University String Ensemble Concerto Competition. She has performed in master classes for Dr. Timothy Schwarz, Molly Carr, Sheila Browne, Peter Winograd, and Todd Philips.
An avid educator, Julianne has experience teaching elementary through college-aged violin and viola students, as well as experience teaching general music to students in preschool through fifth grade. She is currently the general music teacher at Ocean City Primary School in Ocean City, New Jersey where she works with students in kindergarten through third grade. When she is not teaching or performing, Julianne enjoys reading, watching TV, or spending time with family and friends. In all that she does, Julianne hopes to share her passion for music with others to help inspire a generation of musicians and individuals with a life-long love of music and learning.
