Semester of music offers favorites, guests, different venues
The schedule of musical performances and events being presented by Rowan University's Department of Music and College of Performing Arts during the Spring 2016 semester includes traditional favorites, special guests, and unique venues.
The kick-off is the 46th Annual Rowan Jazz Festival on February 10, 11 & 12. Hosted by Rowan's Maynard Ferguson Institute of Jazz Studies, the festival welcomes school bands from around the region for adjudication sessions, clinics, and performances. This daytime schedule in Wilson Hall includes one-hour jazz clinics at 11:45 am which are open to the public. The festival's Closing Night Concert on February 12 at 8 pm in Pfleeger Concert Hall is a reunion of sorts when alumni musicians return to perform, in addition to the Rowan Lab Band and Jazz Band. Tickets for the evening concert are $15 available online at rowan.tix.com; or call 856-256-4545 for reservations. For more information on daytime programming, contact festival director Denis DiBlasio at 856-256-4500, ext. 3528 or via email at diblasio@rowan.edu.

The Navy Band's premier wind ensemble, featuring 56 performers on a range of instruments, presents a repertoire of marches, symphonic selections, patriotic works, and popular favorites. Admission is FREE, but advance advanced tickets are required. For reservations and other information, call 856-256-4545 or email arts@rowan.edu. There is a limit of 6 tickets per person.
The Cory Band, hailing from Wales and winner of the 2015 National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain, performs earlier in the day on February 20, at 2 pm in Pfleeger Concert Hall as part of the 2016 Marie Rader Presenting Series. The concert offers a varied program, including a uniquely English showcase that pays musical tribute to a host of great Britons. Visit rowan.tix.com for tickets and information.
